Elastic Cloud is the default path if you are already deep in Elasticsearch + Kibana. It is also where license changes, feature packs, and resource-unit billing show up as budget and roadmap risk.

Hosted OpenSearch on Logit.io gives you a managed Apache OpenSearch cluster — Dashboards, RBAC, REST APIs, and optional Hosted OpenSearch MCP — with public node pricing from $45.52/node/mo. Size nodes on OpenSearch pricing.

What Elastic Cloud does not buy you

Elastic Cloud means someone else runs Elasticsearch. It does not mean open-source economics or a simple node price. Subscription tiers, paid features, and RAM-based deployment sizing make forecasts sticky — and the lock-in talk starts the first time a plugin or connector sits behind a higher SKU.

Hosted OpenSearch on Logit.io is for teams that want OpenSearch as the engine: Dashboards, security plugins, REST, and day-two ops without babysitting JVMs. Start on the Hosted OpenSearch overview, then size on OpenSearch pricing.

OpenSearch vs Elasticsearch — what actually changes

OpenSearch is the community-driven, Apache 2.0 successor line after Elastic’s license change. Query DSL, indexes, and Dashboards will feel familiar if you came from Elasticsearch + Kibana — you are not learning a greenfield store.

What changes commercially: you stop negotiating Elastic feature packs for core search/analytics work, and you get a managed OpenSearch product with transparent per-node pricing. Pair with managed Grafana when metrics need a first-class UI on the same account.

Migration shape — indexes, dashboards, and clients

Most Elastic Cloud exits are reindex + client endpoint swaps, not greenfield architecture. Export or reindex into a Logit OpenSearch stack, point Beats/Elastic Agent/OpenTelemetry exporters at the new ingest path, and rebuild critical Kibana objects in OpenSearch Dashboards.

Keep a dual-run window: read-only validation queries on Logit while Elastic still serves production. Engineer-backed support helps with mappings, ILM/ISM equivalents, and role models — not a ticket black hole.

Pricing you can put in a spreadsheet

Logit Hosted OpenSearch public “from” pricing is $45.52/node/mo on DEV-1-1-10 — published on OpenSearch pricing. That page is the only price source for node tiers. We do not invent Elastic Cloud dollar amounts here; Elastic bills by deployment resources and subscription features that vary by region and contract.

RBAC, REST, alerting, and hosted MCP

Security plugins cover encryption and role-based access with index- and document-level restrictions. Call REST at https://{stack-id}-es.logit.io; enable user credentials on Business/Custom so CI inherits Teams roles.

Managed Alerting covers 12 rule types and 45 destinations. Hosted OpenSearch MCP gives Cursor and Claude a managed read-only endpoint — no local MCP process to babysit after you leave Elastic’s AI add-ons behind.
