In our latest post helping software developers to choose between different technology types we are covering the top differences you need to know about Angular vs AngularJS before selecting one of these for your next development project.
AngularJs is a JavaScript framework that is used to develop single-page web apps. Simultaneously, Angular is a popular open-source Typescript framework created by Google for developing web applications.
As stated by our first technology specialist, Adam Amrine, owner of Adro Software Solutions; AngularJS came before Angular and was primarily a JavaScript framework in it’s early iterations.
As time went on and Google learned from their implementation and wanted to evolve the framework, they decided to make version 2.0 of Angular.
However, when it was released, it was not a simple upgrade process and was actually a complete shift in the way it worked and had to be implemented, as they suggested that you use TypeScript as the primary language to use when developing in Angular.
Since Angular started at version 2.0, it implied it was just a major update from AngularJS 1.0. However, that was misleading.
They did have ways to upgrade, but in reality, the process was complex. Upgrades from 2.0 onwards have become easier and subsequently there was a site created to make the upgrade process from version to version easier.
Our next expert Abby Hau of WellPCB covers the top five considerations worth noting when comparing Angular vs AngularJS.
1. Components
AngularJS uses terms of scope and controllers, while Angular uses a hierarchy of components. AngularJS uses directives, while Angular is component-based.
2. Performance
Angular applications are much faster than AngularJS, which is claimed by many developers.
AngularJS uses two-way binding features, ultimately reducing the efforts and time of construction, but the angular framework is upgraded to an improved structure, which grants the user performance and speed benefits.
3. Mobile support
AngularJS doesn't provide support for mobile development, while Angular does support this. With increasing demands in this mobile-centric world, all the Angular 2+ versions provide mobile support for creating web apps of optimum efficiency.
4. Architecture
AngularJS uses the Model View Controller framework which acts as the central component as it manages data, logic, rules and expresses how the applications behave. While Angular uses components which are directives with templates.
5. Angular Command Line interface
Angular ships with a Command-line interface, which is used to generate components that help finish the project quickly, while AngularJS doesn't have a CLI of its own.
The learning process for understanding both Angular and AngularJS can be quite hard. If you wish to develop a simple and straightforward application, AngularJS can make development faster and easier. But for the development of complex applications that require scalability, Angular should be an obvious choice for these projects.
